Clergy sexual misconduct is a significant and well documented problem in the
church. Close to 14% of pastors have sexual relations with someone other than a
spouse while in the ministry, over 30 % engage in extramarital behavior and over
50% qualify as functionally addicted to internet pornography (McBrearty, Ahmad &
Thoburn, 2009; Thoburn & Whitman, 2003).
A New Comprehensive Approach
A number of books have been written examining aspects of clergy sexual misconduct, but tend to focus on specific areas, such as rehabilitation for the pastor, prevention needs, denominational policies, or the traumatic effects on the pastor, his family or the congregation.
There are no resources - until this - that have looked at the recursive nature of these elements one to another, that is, how each factor influences and is influenced by the other factors, nor to date offered a practical guide that maps out step-by-step prevention and restoration approaches for all parties affected.
In this session and book, these pieces are pulled together into a cohesive whole. By doing so, the approaches presented shed new light on and offer new hope for working with a stubborn and significant problem in the life of the church and the broader culture.
Endorsements for the Book and Approach
“What an incredible tool for navigating the tumultuous waters of clergy sexual
micconduct. If you're looking for strategies of prevention and options for
treatment and options for treatment, look no further. This helpful compendium is
chock-full of them.”

pureJUSTICE is more
than a program or initiative; it is a way of living. A pure and just life is
at the heart of our calling as children of God. Our goal is to equip the
church to live out this calling, and in so doing, to be the salt and light
so desperately needed in the dark and sexualized culture in which we live.
